Sit on Top lighting

Everyone has their own opinions on lights. I have two lights that sit on top of tank. A 39 inch blade coral growth and a 48 inch fluval marine. I get so much par from these 2 lights it's ridiculous. I know people are gonna say junk but I will disagree on the fluval and blade. The blad puts off a more t5 bright as he'll look. Good shimmer from them both when lights go down a little.

The blades are actually relatively decent lights. I’ve read some issues from them but a lot of people seem to like them. Fluval seems to get mixed reviews. Some say weak. Others say good for LPS and softies. Honestly if they’re working, I wouldn’t change it up.

The Fluvals are nice lights but do not have enough watts to be considered adequate for a reef tank alone.

Marine 3.0 Bluetooth LED, 59W, 48-60 In

A ReefBreeders Photon 48 is 240w. At 50% twice as strong. Generally I use mine at 55-60 on a 24 inch deep tank

Fluval did have a Pro version that had 2 lights that was barely adequate but I don’t know what they sell now. It looks like the Photon is no more as well.

The photons are being replaced by the Meridians. Adam at BattleCorals has been running prototypes of the Meridians for I think about the past 6 months to a year or so for his frag tanks and he hasn’t had any complaints.

I am not looking for lights right now so I will keep my thoughts to myself except to say I would not be interested in the Meridians.

Or the Blades because I use my red and green channels and I think they lack them.

That’s fair. I personally like the published spectrum of the photon over the meridian (I see a benefit to the red and green channels). And if I was to switch from metal halide to LED that would definitely be something I’d look at.

I ca say I am extremely happy with my decision to change over. My MH lights sounded like a bomber from WW2 when they turned on the fans in the morning. Power bill went down too. I did not go with a typical lighting replacement though. And then I lost all those ballasts at once so it was time.
