Six Line Wrasse

First post, long time researcher here on Reef Central. I wanted to chime in on Six Line Wrasses - well what happened with mine at least...

It was first added to my 55 gallon tank. Next came two clown fish. Yesterday - a cleaner shrimp.

The wrasse did not leave the shrimp alone and it died this morning. He tore it up and the poor shrimp was defenseless.

There are mixed reviews about this fish. I really like them. The LFS I go to said they will trade out my wrasse for a smaller one that is currently housed in a tank full of cleaner shrimp at the store.

I just wanted to share this as a cautionary tale for future purchasers of this fish, mine did not take well to the cleaner.

Trade it in...but not for another 6 line!

I traded it in for another cleaner shrimp and credit towards a yellow tang purchase. It is sad though because I think those fish are so cool. Unfortunately, I want ornamental shrimp more... The two just aren't compatible.

I have had medium size six lines fine with cleaners and ornamental shrimp. I feel like six lines are one of those fish that the personality differs between each specimen. Sorry to hear about the aggression.

Yea....I had a six line for several years....never touched a invert or another fish....then one day he snapped....he went after all of my leapard Wrasses like he was a crazed ax murderer! I moved half of my live rock out to catch him....was a PITA...then back to the LFS he went! I will never own one again! I remember seeing bad posts about them and laughing thinking mine is not like that....lol....I was wrong...lol!

You might have to trade in that Yellow Tang soon also. 55g is way too small for that fish.
