Skim or not to Skim?

For a Zoanthid only tank (well, Zoanthid dominate) would you have a skimmer or not? My rough idea is a 20 gal. w/ 20 gal sump. I was either going to go heavy skimming and bare bottom to have some sps, or go no skimmer and do more frequent water changes. I know that no skimming can promote growth, but will it impact the colors. I have a 250w 20k hallide, so light should not be an issue, but I am looking for opinions on filtration.

Ideas?

just my observations.... lighting is the only factor that I have noticed changes zoa/paly colors. Raising and lowering zoas and changing light setup has dramatic effects... read these as you have time... very interesting

As for no skimming, if all you have are zoas, then I think you may be fine. If you have fish and or other softies... would research how clean your water should be for each species. I love skimming, but I have read that some setups with excellent live rock to water ratios and great refugiums are doing just fine without skimming. read this http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=423931&highlight=skimmerless
