Skimers are weird

So my little aqua system visi jet skimmer is acting weird.
I hooked it up last night and right away it was producing good foam and skimmate. This morning it was still going strong, I cleaned the cup(rinsed w tap watter) and went bact to surfing the net and watching TV. I get up, Look at the skimmer and nothing? no foam in the reaction chamber?

I guess it's just part of the break in?

What is going on in a "broken in" skimmer VS. a new one?

I know the skimmer is to small for my tank. It says up to 70 gal., but it was only forty bucks, and should help untill I decide what to do about my tank situation.
I'm trying to decide if I want to replace my tank stand, and go back to big sumps/skimmers, I was gonna have a little no maintenance tank.

Some skimmers need some time to start effectively skimming after there's disruption in the water source like from feeding the tank, or cleaning the skimmer itself. It should resume working as intended in a little while.

The foam needs time to work itself back over the cup again; kind of like head on a beer. If you pour a beer with too much head, rub your finger on your nose, and touch the head; it will start destroying the bubbles from where you touch it (something to do with the oil from your face). The inner chamber of the cup works somewhat the same way.
