Have a 120 and just got a used euroreef in sump skimmer. Testing it out to see if it will work properly. All seems in order, pumps works, foam rises, etc.. My issue is the fact that I have adjusted the skimmer to as low a place as possible, yet I continue to collect water in the collection cup at a fast rate, i.e. a couple of inches per hour. The skimmer is sitting in 9-10 inches of water. Is there something I can do to slow the rate of water in the cup down?

Another thing that causes a skimmer to go crazy is additives like slime coat enhancer or aloe. Many water conditioners have these mixed in. If you use them, the skimmers will go wild.
The only remedy I know of is to do several water changes without the water conditioner.
Another RC'er told me that he uses tap water and he does NOT use water conditioner....just the sea salt chemicals.
