We all have had our skimmer act up and the cup overflow making a mess inside your sump at one time or another. Not fun!! Needed a solution to address this issue.
Some have used a small float switch fastened to the lid of the skimmer cup, but for me using a small float switch was not an option as it would not fit inside my Aquamaxx EM200 cup.
I had an idea that came to mind on how I could use the same concept of a water leak sensor. Decided to make my own and DIY was the only way!
1) I used an extra float switch that had laying around and removed the magnetic ring
2) Cut a notch on both sides of the nut to fish the wires through
3) Cut the wire from the float switch and crimped a contact to each wire
4) Did some additional trimming of the nut on the float switch to ensure the groove is not blocked preventing the cup sit in the groove
5) Connected the wires to the APEX breakout box
6) Programmed the Skimmer outlet and added the following line:
"If SkmRes CLOSED Then OFF"
When water fills the cup and touches the two contacts the circuit closes and the APEX shuts off the skimmer. Tested this numerous times.....works each and every time thus far. Hope it works for someone else as well!
