Skimmer for 40g breeder with glass hood

I've had my 40g breeder tank set up for a few months now and it has been doing well, but I still don't have a skimmer. I have bought a few then had to return them because they don't fit. I have a glass hood on my tank, whcih is necessary because my cat will jump in if it take it off or put on a screen (trust me, it happened twice). The problem is that none of the skimmers I have tried or seen will fit in the tank with the approx 2" clearance I have in the back behind the hood. Anyone know of a skimmer that doesn't stick out too far and will work with a hood?

I kinda think you should take the lid off the tank and set up a camera. The internet LOVES videos of cats doing silly things and a cat jumping in an aquarium would certainly go viral. The next morning you and the cat could be on Good Morning America!

Or, you could get thicker acrylic. But I like the first idea better.

or you could train the cat not to be up there.. just a thought.

Squirt bottle with water always worked for me. Cat jumps on counters, he gets a squirt, jumps on the tank, again another squirt. It doesn't take to many squirts until they learn not to gt on the tank or counters.
