I have a Octopus 3000int skimmer. The pump acts up if the water level in the sump gets low. It's a $550 skimmer new. I'm selling for $150 because of the pump issue.

Here is the post I sent to Coralvue to see if they could help me figure out how to solve the problem, but they never responded back.

I have the reef octopus 3000int with the bubble blaster pump. When the water gets down to about 6 inches the pump would stop. I have taken the pump a part and can not find any issues and its good and clean. In order for me to get it to start back up. I have to unplug it. Remove it from the water. Plug it in and give it a smack. Unplug it put back on the skimmer body. Plug it in and I have to blow threw the air tube. It start and run good for only a few minutes and stop again. It's almost like the impeller is getting jammed up.

Any suggestions will be most appreciated. I really like this skimmer and don't want to have to replace it.

Ha e you taken a good look at the impeller to be sure it hasn't rushed and swollen just enough to drag on the inside of the motor housing?

Are you using an auto top-off to keep the level in the sump steady? Skimmers should be in a section that has a steady height. I'm surprised you get consistent performance out of it if the level fluctuates.

I don't know how to setup a auto top-off on my tank.

If you don't have a controller, you could get a tunze osmolator or similar ato.

Ya I will have to look into how to setup a ATO. Sense I just bought a space saver skimmer. I'm going to be Buying one of the DC internal return pumps. By doing so I should be able to fit a ten gallon tank under my stand. The only thing is, is that my tank goes through three gallons a day.

Litermeter III makes an ato that you could have your barrels in another room if you wanted.
