skimmer gunk in the neck

since I upgraded the pump on my skimmer, I have been getting a lot of skimmer feces build up in the neck of the skimmer, so barely any bubbles/froth are making it through to the cup

am I doing something wrong?

Water level too low?

Sounds like the gook that should be going up the neck is setteling IN the neck.

Clean it and adjust it?

Are you getting a lot of skimmate? Is it wet or dry?

it was wet at first, but now Im barely getting anything because the neck is all clogged up

raising the water level is impossible, but I could raise the riser tube

I've been told that I should target for a 1/2" of gunk buildup at the top of the skimmer neck, and if I get more than that, I need to adjust the skimmer so that the water rises higher inside (higher bubble breaking point). Also your skimmer should produce more skimmate after you clean out the neck. I clean mine out 3x a week at least.
