Skimmer in refugium

Does it matter where I put the skimmer in the refugium?
I haven't heard of any real restrictions myself. I don't run a skimmer currently (large fuge) but may in the future.

If I was placing mine I would look for a spot...

1. Not up tight on the heaters
2. Not right near probes
3. On flat surface
4. Not in a strong flow area (so it doesn't get pushed around)

I'm curious to hear from others on whether or not any real restrictions exist.

A skimmer will be skimming out a good number of your pods if put in the fuge... kind of minimizes the effectiveness of a fuge but shouldn't be necessarily detrimental...

If I was running a fuge with algae (cheato) I would run it in a way where your fuge as more contact time with the water than the skimmer. Both benefit from contact time with your overflow water, but I've always felt like lower flow to the algae fuge is better. I like themaggots idea of running them on opposite ends, then you can control how much overflow each gets. I don't like the DSB though. Not overall, but a DSB really needs special attention and conditions to be effective. There are easier and more effective ways to get rid of nitrate IMO.

what would you rather do instead of a dsb?
