Skimmer problem

I have a wee problem with my skimmer, it always seems to produce wet skimmate, I thought at first the water level was too deep so I raised the skimmer up an inch and for a day it was perfect, the bubbles were starting at the bottom of the cup and then the foam was breaking just at the rim and the skimmate was dark green, now the foam is not there at all just the bubbles to the bottom of the cup. then I thought maybe the flow through the sump was maybe too slow so I increased that a bit but no effect, can anyone give me some advice as to what to try. One more question, I turn it off during feeding, why is that important? thanks in anticipation.:headwally:

I like my skimmer bubbles to break just above the bottom of my collection cup, this way I get a really dark skimmer product. as far as depth, looking what the manufacture recommends, all skimmers are different in that capacity. it's important to turn off your pumps during feeding to prevent your skimmer for just going crazy, it also keeps the food in the tank for your fish/inverts to eat up.

How often do you feed? Whenever I feed, my skimmer shuts down for a couple hours and then it has to build up a foam head again. Its something to do with the oils in the food that shuts the skimmer down. I wouldn't turn off the skimmer during feeding there's really no need.

Skimmers can be finicky sometimes but if it was pulling out good skimmate at the current setting it will do it again.
