skimmer problems

Seems like a lot of people have questions about skimmers lately, I'm one of them. My question is my skimmer goes nuts after water changes or tank cleanings. It overflows the collection cup for a while after. Am I suppose to ajust the skimmer every time so that it does'nt overflow or just leave it and let it settle on its own? Seems like I'm constantly adjusting the skimmer. About the time I get it just right, it's time for another water change or cleaning. Just wanted to know if the was normal or am I doing something wrong. Thanks

My skimmer overflows once in a while too- eventually I decided to just unplug it for fifteen minutes or so. When I plug it back in it works fine.

How stable is the water level in the sump section that feeds your skimmer. I have found minor changes drive my skimmers ... and me, crazy!

"Ditto" work for me too.

the depth of the water in the sump that contains the skimmer needs to be consistent.maybe you are ajusting your skimmer too high to get a wet foam.try not adjusting it so high and dont fiddle with for a couple of days.

The water level in the sump remains constant. I also have a direct feed from one of my overflows into the skimmer. Not using any conditioners, only use RO/DI water. I set the skimmer so that the bubble line is half way up the neck. I had read somewhere on here that this is about where it should be. Is that not right? Thanks for the help.
