Skimmer question

I have an octopus 150 skimmer and it does not seem to be doing its job. I had it on a tank before and it did great, but now its not bubbling all the way to the top.

Do I not have enough nutrients in the tank since its so new?

Should I pull the adjuster higher? How high do you typically have to pull them? What does it mean if you have to pull it almost as far as it will go before you get any skim?

My old skimmer broke and it took me about 2 years to get a new one. When I finally got around to putting the new one in, it when nuts (about half cup / day) for about a month, now I only pull about 1/8 cup per week.

I don't know for sure, but there may not be anything wrong, in fact you may just have a very clean tank. Once the junk is out you will not see that much skimmate unless you overfeed etc.

If it's been sitting dry for a while it might just need some time to run in. Also make sure all the pieces are securely assembled so you're not losing suction somewhere and make sure it's sitting in about 10" of water.

Either way, you should adjust the water level so it's at the base of the collection cup. Just keep an eye on it for a few days so it doesn't overflow once it starts producing skimmate again.

I will move it higher, I am getting some skim. I don't like going to high because it makes a really wet skim.

My bioload is extremely low and I don't feed to much. Tank is only a little over a week old.
