Skimmer Question

Okay I'm a bit perplexed.....

What exactly does the 'break-in' period mean? My skimmer is giving me TONS of foam and I'm losing about a gallon of water per hour. I have a control know to the power head, but for obvious reasons this is out of control!!! Is this something I just have to ride out over a couple of days? I obviously can't leave it running to go to bed/work. If I run it when I'm home to keep an eye on it, will this get better?

what kind of skimmer and you intake needs to be at half flow untill you break it in

My filter is a Pro Clear 75 that has the skimmer built in to the filter. i have the air control valave turned all the way down, plus a piece of tape over the air hole, but I'm still getting huge amounts of water/foam.

There should be a control knob. You need to adjust so just foam comes out the top. The break in is with the micro bubbles it produces in the tank. After a few days the micro bubbles will calm down.
