skimmer riser neck gets gunky fast!

Just recently, the riser neck on my skimmer has been getting gunky fast, within a day. I'll clean it one day and the next day it'll need to be cleaned again. It never did this before. Should I be cleaning it with anything? Right now I just scrub it with a toothbrush.

Maybe raise the water level which might help lift the solids into the collection cup. I just wipe the skimmers down when I rinse them off with the hose.

What skimmer?

Yea, thats the problem with skimming dry imo, i like inbetween wet and dry, dark and wet is the best way to skim to me. I don't have to clean the collection cup as much this way.
