Skimmers

I have a Eshopps 75 gal. Skimmer on my 55 gal. It doesn't work too good, I still have alot of detritus/waste build up when I clean my rocks etc. And it doesn't fill up with scum but maybe once every two weeks, it doesn't bubble but on occasion, I'm pretty sure it's broken or something isn't quite right. Not many bubbles, not sucking up water lol

I wanted to co d a new skimmer, and I found this, and a used different brand that ill probably go for if this one is no good ^^

Why so cheap?

Most likely because it is an inefficient skimmer with a very cheap pump. If you want a good skimmer purchase a quality used skimmer and avoid the e-bay specials.

That's probably a home built one someone is trying to sell. Don't buy cheap in this hobby otherwise you'll end up purchasing it again.

Ill probably end up buying both the used brand name, and eBay el cheapo. alot of stuff in the hobby is expensive, just because it can be with the high demand.
Like LEDs, cost about 20$ to make, sell for 300-700$

Plus, my tank is a 55 gal. And the el cheapo is rated for 150, even if it under-skims it would probably work okay on mine >~> hopefully.... I just really want lots of skimmers since changing my water is becoming a every other day thing since mine broke...

Your crazy if you think this thing is going to come close to your eshopps. You would be better off using the money to buy a lottery ticket and hoping to win money to upgrade

Lol, in my whole time of having the eshopps it was terrible and never worked too good, only got maybe 10 cups of skim from it in 2 years :sad2: it's worth a try at this rate, plus I'm getting an omega 130 skimmer for 30$ too, so ill be okay even if it doesn't work

I typically don't want to pay over 100$ if there are other options, and where I live, by military base, there are often times very expensive equipment for very cheap ^^ I would buy an expensive one, but my money comes strictly from the art I do, and it's not much :uhoh2:

Skimmers

That eshopps 75 should be enough skimmer for the tank. With only $100 you'll be camping Craigslist for a while waiting for a good skimmer at a good price. In the meantime save up.

Well, that's the thing, I think maybe the pump is broken on it, I feed my tank alot, and have some messy fish, but rarely does the thing even make any bubbles :uhoh3:

skimmers are one of the hardest working pieces of equipment and extremely vital to any tank. Even some pricey ones are known to be a head ache. I say just save and buy new. Borrow from a relative or friend and pay them back. Add a small interest if you want. You want it to be dependable. Having a warranty is always nice :)
