Skinny Fish

I have had several fish in the last six months get very skinny within days and then die. They keep eating up to the end. A couple of rabbit fish and a tang have turned belly up.

They have died around three months from each other. They had been in the tank for around six months when the kicked the bucket.

The other six fish in the tank are OK.

Does anyone have an idea why this is happening.

Wow! I've had the exact same experience with two FoxFaces. The first got really skinny and died about two weeks ago, and the second died the same way this past weekend.

These fish were 5-6 inches long and had very healthy coloring.

They were actively swimming and eating up to the day prior to their death.

I am thinking that they had some sort of gut parasite because they were eating well on a daily basis and had no obviuos signs of disease (except for the weight loss).

I even put the second guy in a hospital tank and treated him with Prazipro, but I think it was too little, too late on the treatment.

Both fish were doing well in my 218 gallon reef tank for over six months before they died. All of the remaining fish are fat and healthy.

I have been battling the same thing on my female naso tang. She would eat and eat but never gain weight. I have tried prazipro (multiple times), metronidazole, and just about anything i could think of. The funny thing is when prazipro was applied, she would get fat overnight, but 2-3 days later she would get skinny again, even though the next round of prazipro was applied. I am convinced that she has internal parasites.

This is my last resort: http://www.goldfishutopia.com/products/Anti%2dParasidic-Medicated-Food-4oz.html

Jungle has stopped making medicated food and after lots of searching, this what I found. It's due to arriving tomorrow and I am going to give it a try. If this doesn't cure her I don't know what else to do other than sending her to a vet. I will post my result on this thread.

This is another brand of medicated food.

It's more expensive than the one by goldfish utopia and has the same ingredient.
