small chevron tang questions

Would a small (1 1/2 inches) chevron tang be a high risk purchase? I know some fish adapt better to aquarium life when they are smaller and some when they are larger. Please post your experiences with small chevrons for me so I may make an informed buying decision.

FYI--this tang will go into a 65g qt w/live rock for observation/feeding/meds (if needed) before going to my dt in my sig. It will be the only tang in the system, with no other tangs added in the future.

Ive never tried one that small, but have kept one that was about 2.5". Smaller tangs require very frequent feeding but aside from that, there was never an issue.

mine was about that size when i got it, that was 3 years ago. It was the first fish i put in my tank. I fed twice a day with hikari mysis and had a sheet of algae available to it at all times. Other than that it will pick at the liverock and glass all day. I wouldnt be scared off by its size it will grow quickly, just dont dump it into the display until it is ready.

let him put a little meat on and grow a little bit before you put him in. If there are other fish in the tank it may get bullied because it is so small. Since u have a 65g qt tank dont rush to get him in the display make sure it is strong and healthy.

Mine was about that size when I acquired it 5 years ago. However there were no aggressive tank mates and no other tangs and this was an established 240 gallon tank. Nice fish, doing nicely.

Thank you for the help guys. I pulled the trigger and ordered him to be delivered next week after I catch the couple of wrasses in the 65 and move them over to the dt
