My LFS got what I think is Rypticus nigripinnis- a soapfish. I heard that when they get stressed they release a toxin. Is this true for ALL soapfish? Plus I heard they are relatively peaceful. True?
Well I saw one on DD and they say that they are poisonous when stressed or they die. Also read that in their natural habitat that they eat smaller fish but they are listed as peaceful.
Their mouths are surprisingly large for their size, capable of eating tankmates 3/4 their size, but if they cant eat them they wont chase or behave aggressively. As long as nobody harasses them they likely wont release the toxin. If you are worried about it but still want him, be sure to run carbon religiously.
