It's likely designed for a rimless tank which means you would have to modify your trim, but that is just a guess as I don't have that light. Can you provide a picture of the mount as it sits on your tank rim?Hello, I need some help with my smatfarm light. I have a 20 Long and I just setup my light on Wednesday. When I set it up, the light was heavy and the stand leaned forward. I need some advice on how to fix this. View attachment 32384619
I read about that and it said it was ok for rims under 50 gallonsIt's likely designed for a rimless tank which means you would have to modify your trim, but that is just a guess as I don't have that light. Can you provide a picture of the mount as it sits on your tank rim?
This is from Adobe:The macbook I am using saved the image as a heic file, It says I cannot send this type of file
I tried that but I couldn't find the file thing on the preview. The mount part that connects to the rim also leans, and when I lift it, it makes a creaking noise on the rim. But today it just bent the little ledge on the rim. This is from Adobe:
"Here are the steps to convert HEIC to JPG on a Mac:
The resulting file has to be under 3MB to post here. HTH.
- Use the Preview app to open the HEIC image.
- From the top menu, select File and then Export.
- You will see a Format drop-down menu. Use it to select JPG as the format.
- Give your new JPG photo a name and choose where you want to save it.
- Click Save, and you're done."
I would take the metal shaft completely out, then back the screws that are meant to grab the glass all the way out. If the channel won't fit down completely flat onto the rim of your tank like that (no gap between rim top and the top of the channel), then you need to modify your tank trim so that it does (basically your trim needs to be narrower than 1" in the spot you want to mount the light). If you can get the bracket mounted completely flat, then reinsert the metal shaft and extend it downward a few inches to reduce the forward slack that is also working against you.I tried that but I couldn't find the file thing on the preview. The mount part that connects to the rim also leans, and when I lift it, it makes a creaking noise on the rim. But today it just bent the little ledge on the rim.
Since your tank is already full, it gets trickier. You want to minimize crap going in your water and a dremel would make a mess. Cut two notches and then score it between and bend it back and forth until it snaps off. If the notches can be done with a knife without slicing yourself in the process then that could work. A soldering iron would work to melt the notches then use a knife to score in between. Hack saw blade or drwall saw also would work for the notches but also gets back to mess making.I will try that when I get home, but if that does not work how should I cut the rim? I have heard of people using dremels but I do not have one.
If the bracket as is fits over the rim, you seriously just need to shim it out so the inner lip can't bend from the weight. A piece of wood would be fine even as a trial run.actually I might just make a diy mount.
or buy another, don't really want to do this project lol
