how true is it about smoking in the same room as the aquarium can kill the contents of the aquarium . not that i do its just that someone told me this and its the first i have heard.

My tank is in my bedroom where i spend most of my time, i am a smoker and i've seen no ill effects.

I know a lot of smokers that don't seem to have a problem.

It depends whatcha smokin! LOL, your fish may start swimmin' upside down and backwards for a bit! :bum:  :p :D :mixed:

perhaps you should be more worried about the ill effects smoking has to you:)......heart disease, loung cancer, copd, to name a few

when i lived in a house with 5 other guys "smokin" had no effect on my tank.......deep frying 20 quail after "smokin" sure did tho.
there was an oil slick in the tank.

now there is no "smokin" just smoking in my apt and i have not noticed any ill effects, other than irritable and cranky fish when i tried quitting. ;)

i wouldn't worry about the second-hand smoke affecting your display, but you should be very careful about washing your hands before putting your hands in the tank, preparing fish food, etc. bob fenner talks about how he used to work for the state spraying nicotine for mosquito control down south in his younger days, and about the huge fish kills that would result from that. it's worth treating it as toxic to your fish and acting accordingly. just use common sense, like if you aerate your RO water, don't smoke around the air pump.

True 'dat. Nicotine is pretty much rated as equally poisonous ot cyanide. But... The amount of nicotine on your fingers is negligable. It's generally a good idea to wash your hands before putting them in thetank anyway, though :)

Yes, agreed, especially if you use skin products, perfume, ointments, etc. Also, does anyone know offhand if overheated teflon does anything re: fish? I know that it kills birds and have wondered if it will also take out your tanks.
