smooth hose vs. ribbed hose?

Hi all, I'm using the megaflow kit on my 92 corner tank. It works really well, but my question is this. The drain hose coming from the bulkhead to the sump is ribbed (like a pool hose). I constantly hear a cascading water sound. If I replaced this with a smooth walled hose would that quiet the cascading sound?

i have solid PVC for my return and it quiet but i hear the splashing when it hit the water ... i can deal with that ...

My return enters below the water level at in the sump so that's perfectly quiet. The only noise now is from the bottom of the bulkhead down the "ribbed hose". That's why I'm wondering if anyone uses a smooth walled hose. Not sure if I want to use the PVC, but if it's really quiet maybe.

Yes, it's the aga version of the Durso pipe that comes with the megaflow kit. It just seems to me that a smooth walled hose compared to a ribbed hose would be at least somewhat quieter because there's less "friction" for lack of a better word flowing down into the sump.

I found that the ribbed hoses were better than smooth rigid PVC.

They slowed the water down before exited and made everything much quieter and helped fix micro bubble issues for me.

Never thought about that, but my water exits below the water line in the sump so slower or faster doesn't matter in my case. I'm just looking for a little bit quieter. Doesn't have to be totally silent.
