Hi guys
Just curious how many snails you guys go through in a month? I am about 3 turbo snails a month from just falling over and me not there to flip them over right away.

Well I asked for turbo snails, but im no snail guy. but there uprighting capabilities are 0 whatever they are.

There you go :) You can see some snails on the protein skimmer box and on the front side of the glass.

Wow, those look like "turbos".

Though, I've often heard and seen people call astrea snails "trubos". Particularly at my LFS.

Any hermits in the system? (great pics btw)

I love your big rock. That's really nice.

Those are turbo snails. How long did you take to acclimate them? I found out thru trial and error that a nice long slow acclimation is critical to these guys, or else they wouldn't live for more than a few weeks to a month. Another thought here is that your tank looks really "clean". Perhaps they are starving to death. They normally don't just fall over like that unless they were knocked or something is wrong.

Wow, that's an awesome looking rock! How many snails total do you have in the system? As Reeses stated maybe they are starving, your tank looks really clean.

alrite guys, thanx for the advice. To be honest I dont acclimate my snails :| only my fish. That is my probobly why my snails are only living one month or so. I currently have about 7 or so turbos in there and a couple other tiny things I have no idea what they are called. I will acclimate them next time :)

I have had three turbos die, one a month ago and two this past week(out of a total of 9) and they were large. I finally saw my coral beauty delibertately bumping into them. I know my tank is not as clean as yours. It is lovely.

Thanx for the compliments guys.
I just recently bought a new Lighting fixture. My corals were starving, and these are recent pics. Once my coral starts growing like it should I will take more pics.

Oh, and I like having very clean glass. isnt there other places they can eat such as the detrius or algae from the rock?

Inverts are often times more sensitive than fish. Shrimp are particularly sensitive to both acclimation and water quality, so if you ever pick up one of those, free up your afternoon. :)

Good luck, and I'm glad you (hopefully) figured it out.

They are herbivores, so they only eat algae.

I would suggest since your tank looks so "clean" to really think about only keeping one or two, and only adding more when it's apparent that there is more algae than the snails can eat. As far as keeping your glass sparkly clean, use a mag float every couple of days instead. The snails won't be able to keep the glass perfectly clean anyway. :)
