Snail ID (Picture inside)

Hi all
Just saw today a bunch of small snails I have never seen before.
(You know how it is, suddenly they are there)

They are very small maybe 1.5mm x 1.5mm at the most.

This is in my 10g tank where nothing has been introduced in months... maybe three or so.
Any idea?

They have the shape and somewhat similar coloring to collonista snails. That's the closest ID I can think of. Can you post another picture?

Best of luck,

Roy

This is what I have. They are small, the second picture gives a sense of scale. The coral is Galaxea sp and only a few polyps.

I'm not convinced that it's Collonista. From the pics, the sculpting seems too heavy. There's a good chance that it's just an artifact of the pictures, but there's also a chance this snail is something else entirely.

While the closest thing they look like is a collonista, I agree that the ridges on the shell are not the normal type you see on a collonista. The ones I have are smoother.

Here is a picture of one http://melevsreef.com/id/snails.html

If you have more than one, do they reproduce? My guys breed like rabbits.

Collonistas are reef safe. For now, I would keep an eye on them and try to figure out what they are eating. If they are breeding in your tank, other people will probably want to get some from you. We're always looking for reef safe species that breed in our tanks.

Best of luck,

Roy

I'm interested in your developments on these snails as well. I looks like Collonista coloration, but the sculpting is unusual.

Are all the snails white? Let us know if they get any larger too.

I will keep an eye on them then.
They do not appear to grow any bigger and I am not seeing them suspiciously close to my corals, so I am not overly concerned about their diet.

Personally, I think it is very doubtful that you will find them eating a coral as most snails eat other things.

Cute snail.

Best of luck,

Roy

I deffinitely do not disagree with what you're saying. But they (for all I know about snails) could have been baby Sundial snails. :)

BTW, I am seeing a lot of these the last day or two.
Maybe ill throw some in my 75 gallon :D
