Snail/invert group buy

It looks like we have a lot of people interested in a group buy. I checked out www.keyscritters.com and they seem to have the best deals and if we get a total order of over $500 we can get a club/group buy discount.

If anyone wants to do the excel spreadsheet let me know and i'll send you the orders as they come in. PMing me is probably the best way to get me your orders or I suppose you could just post it here.

Nicholas, if you have any advice from your prior group buys please give it to me.

So, without further adieu, let the ordering begin.

I have my spread sheet from the last group buy from Keys if you want to use it. The amounts it calculated were off by a few cents, but it worked.

well there is the problem of not collecting up front, and then part of the order either comes in dead or missing, yes they will credit a future order sometimes, but it takes a good several months before enough people need sails again, I see the order process like filling up an airplane, some will miss their fight, others will come late expecting that their seat still be reserved, all the while you hope that the plane dosnt make a crash landing on arrival. I still can buy wholesale and at the end if you need you can buy at my pricing, but im way to busy trying to close purchases at this point to distribute the critters.

I got in last year's group buy and really appreciated all the hard work from Teachermark, Qwic, etc.!

Ironically, my cleaner crew arrives today from etropicals... (This thread wasn't posted in time!) I'm sure it's cheaper to do a big group buy, but if you order $60 worth of cleaners, etropicals ships your order for free overnight. Might want to check them out if you need to buy something right away/need cleaners not available from the bulk order, etc.

They have peppermints for $2.50 and dwarf sea hares for $3.50. Astreas, .90 etc.

Nicholas,
Can you do the order wholesale for me and i'll pick them up and distribute? It seems to me we'll save more this way.

Qwiv,
I'd love to use the spreadsheet, but I really have only minimal excel experience and wouldn't be confident in handling that part of the group buy. If someone else would like to take that part up i'd appreciate it.

Just an FYI... the last GB from keycritter, I lost 99% of my stuff. I wasn't the only one. Something to think about.

O how I wish I could go through my life and not know how to use excel. You are a lucky sole.

I have 70% from the last gb that nicholas put together, I think that I got really lucky =P

I'll take 6 blue legs, 6 scarlets, 12 astrea

=)

I lost atleast 75% of that order (so that's why I need more :D), but it was my fault because I didn't pickup the order for a couple of days as I was out of town.

I still have a few Flame Scallops and almost all my other cleaning crew... Scallops have a track record of lasting 1-6 months, I have keep them for Years...

No problem on the buy, Usually the best buys are the ones when you take about 3 weeks to set up, it gives people time to shuffle back and forth a bit but the whole order is a sell out, as for deaths, the critical time is in the first hours of unpacking, and then they need to be distributed vary fast, if people wait to pick them up, they are already stressed out, and then have to be subjected to poor water/temp conditions. I find rinsing them in buckets of old salt water, then into the fresh salt water gives them the best chances. also its the time of year, this is the best time, its not too hot nor cold.

You should learn excel, its not hard and you learn how to do all kinds of other work with the same knowledge, it would help you students track experiments, and with record keeping/grades, it would automate much of the tedious work you do. a student dosnt show up, the check mark automatically reduces the grade! and produces warning letters and phone numbers for the parents....

I think Nicholas is right in the way of taking it slow on the group buy. Maybe wait a couple weeks for the order to be placed so people have time to jump on if they're out of town or something.

Also, i'd like to get the inverts distributed within 24 hours of receiving them causing minimal stress/death. Maybe we can have a few people to help distribute. One for San Fran, one San Jose, and one East Bay. I can be "home base" and cover the Peninsula.

Let me know what you all think. The quicker we work out the kinks the quicker we get the order placed.

P.S. I know I need to learn excel. :) I'm just a guy who loves to make things harder on himself as far as work goes. :)

Go ahead and start sending me orders. I'll make the first list of confirmed orders taken later this weekend. Please be sure of what you want the first time. I'm not gonna drive myself crazy by changing orders over and over again.

Thanks

If you can find Trochus snails, I would highly recommend them over Astraea snails.

As we all know, the poor little Astraeas can't flip over if they end up on their backs. I think it's tragic how many of them die because of this. When I had them, I used to have to check the tank once in the morning and once at night to flip them back over. Even then, my record for keeping one was about a year.

On the other hand, I still have almost all of the Trochus snails I bought from Lucky Goldfish in Oakland over 2 years ago. The Trochus seem to able to better tolerate warmer water and they can flip themselves over.

Some day, I would love to be able to figure out how to breed them. So far, I've only seen one baby.

Best of luck,

Roy

FYI- Prices are on the keyscritters site. We're going with the normal prices for now. We'll go to wholesale prices if we reach $500.

Please order an even amount as well. For example, 10 astrea instead of 13 astrea. Simple enough? Lets find out.
