Can you keep snails and crabs in BB tanks?

Yes, the snails will keep the bottom of the tank clean.

In fact, when it comes to snails like astreas, a bare-bottom tank is better.

If they fall onto the sand, they often have a nearly impossible time righting themselves. If they fall onto a hard surface and the flow is sufficiently strong, they can just roll along until they find something to attach to.

yup...agree with SEANt's sig line

I have a 5" fighting conch, or queen conch, I forgot witch one it is...I got it years ago when I had a DSB...it was about 1/2" at that time...it's huge now and grazes on the rocks and BB...

Not the ones that live in the sand.

I use atraeas, ceriths, and nassarious snails. I also use a couple scarlet hermits and micro blue leg hermits (these guys are really small) as well.
