Snails knocked my chalice down! ARGH!

My chalice frag has done wonderfully. Nice and healthy, growing, full, etc.

TOday I found it upside down on the substrate and spewing its mucus. It was totally ****ed at those damn snails, crabs or whatever that messed up its day.

Anyway, I put him back up in place (not secured yet, since I have'nt decided if that will be the permanent place ) ... A couple hours later and the mucus has cleared ... Now the tissue has receded from where it was in the sand. Is it just temporary shock. I've had a few corals go bad, but this one always did great. ARGH!

Favia and others I expect to see some tissue recede and come back, but I never saw the chalice do it before. Makes me nervous.

It will be fine and normal. You might loose some tissue depending on how long it was upside down but not a big deal.I would secure because this tmie you got lucky wat if next time you dont?

I have some frags that arent glued down and get turned over from time to time, even for a day or two, and they always recover fine. My large 2x3" piece even gets knocked over some times by the only thing more annoying than turbos, an urchin. Good luck and hopefully its fine

Damn snails...LOL

It should probably be fine, especially if none of the tissue died off of it. If its just mad, chalices will recover fast IME.

I do recommend that you affix it to the rock though (or at least a large frag rock/disk that inverts cannot move around). Granted that many frags can be flipped over or bumped with not a huge issue (or at least they wont die), but this will greatly decrease how comforatable they are which leads to slower growth, and slower/not as much coloration. HTH and GL!

I don't like having snails or hermits in my tank for that reason. They always seem to knock my frags off the rock or frag rack. I have 2 snails and 0 hermits in my 125. heh

similar issue happened to me last night... Last night my hermit knocked over one of my watermelon chalice and landed on my green/white acan... and 2 of my acan's head has melted away... Damn those hermits. Good thing that chalice and the remaining head looks fine this morning.
