He's kinda cute lol I have them all year by my pond, I actually have to walk over them (they do not move while sunning them self) and they are not the least bit scared of me.
Think he wants to move in! lol

Snakes give me the willies. I can look at them in pictures but to see them live makes my skin crawl.

Have you ever touched one? Most people that don't like snakes haven't... they're actually very soft. My brothers had a python growing up - Wilber. Wilber would rest his neck on my shoulder, wrap around my body twice, then tuck his little tail in my pocket :) :)
Isn't there someone on this forum with some nice snakes??

I used to have and breed ball pythons back in college. I had a 4 foot girl that would do much of the same things as one of the above posters snake. They are very personable after you are around then for some time.

Guess it's a garder snake? Very good to have sharing your space, regardless. I've alaways thought snakes are cool, but remember moving into a new house and walking outside to see my young daughter holding a coral snake by the tail. It was trying to raise itself to have a bite on her little finger. Needless to say, the time to teach my kids what not to touch was learned. "Black touches yellow kills a fellow".

I am glad we dont have poisonous ones around here. I hate all snakes. They always catch you by surprise. They are always sunning themselves by my koi pond just like at shawna's pond.

Great pic!

Heh... my little sister does not like snakes... and I most certainly have no idea why. :D

I used to run around the fields at home in Steuben county collecting them for an empty aquarium on our porch and then my dad would always let them loose when I was at school. The older I got, the less I liked the stink left behind on my hands. I've been tempted to get one or two quite a few times but have decided not to do that while I still have the two dogs. Do captive snakes have the same "stink"? I haven't seen any "wild" ones at this house but suspect that has something to do with the feral cats roaming around. As long as something is keeping the rodents away, I guess that's ok. lol

My son kept one (garder snake)for a yr he was almost 2 feet long beauty not very nice.. and would spray this awful smell when felt threatened. we used to catch frogs and other little critters to feed him what a site to see him eat.. but i agree mel they smell bad..as soon as it was warm enough we let him go out back...he shed 4 times while with us btw to watch is sooo cool also.

Garter snakes have the lovely "musk".

I have a corn snake and a ball python. They don't musk like garters.

Their enclosures stink when they take a dump every few weeks, but that goes without saying... :D

Looks to be an Northern Brown Snake. Harmless but will keep the frogs and large bugs at bay. Fun to watch when they sun bathe as well. Nice friend to have OUTSIDE of the home...lol.

My second hobby is snakes. I used to have ball pythons, red tail boas, corn snakes. But I got rid of them and when my daughter is older I will be having them once again. Looking to breed Ball Pythons as well. Though a nice big beautiful Red Tail Boa female is what I want.

Our childhood python (burmese I think - he was about 8 feet long at the time) escaped once in the house when the family was on vacation. Two of my brothers' friends were watching the house/pets/paper-route. My parents knew something had gone terribly wrong when they came in the front door to see a 2x4 and butcher knife lying in the entry way - and a note that said "Various catastrophes occurred while you were gone......"
hahahaha ah the memories.....

I'm with you. Had a friend that kept several as pets so I had plenty of opportunity to handle them, just prefer not to.
