Snapping Sounds??

I have been hearing a snapping or popping sound for a very long time now, I have not put new rock in my tank for over 6 years... Is it possible to have a mantis that has never been seen? No missing fish or shrimp, but a snapping that I just can't figure out??? Could be a crab of some sort?? But no signs of any crabs either??? No molts, no trails, just the noise?? Any ideas?

I would bet its a Pistol Shrimp. They live under the rocks mostly, so you would maybe not have seen him. I had one in my old 125 that I never saw. Came with the rock. Found it when I was tearing the tank down. I heard the popping and clicking for years.

Ditto, I would say pistol. They can hitch hike in when very small and you don't hear them until they get larger. I had one die and float out when I did an Interceptor treatment once. He was very cool, bright red & yellow"¦never even knew he was in the tank.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

If you have a mag drive pump they have a snap sound thats sound just like one also.
I have 2 pistols in my sump and a mantisin my display so I here cool snapping sounds all the time its when you see the shell go flying across the tank is when it gets funny.
