Snorkeling in the Sultanate of Oman

I don't have an underwater camera but I have some pictures from the boat when I went snorkeling this past summer off the coast of Muscat in Oman. It was gorgeous, but excruciatingly hot (around 120F). There were schools of Arabian butterflyfish (Chaetodon melapterus), purple tangs, achilles tangs, parrotfish, wrasses, damselfish, a cuttlefish, sea urchins, and tons of purple acropora corals. 10/10 would recommend.

Nice pics. It looks like the Daymaniyat Islands. Or did you go closer to shore? I dove Oman a few years ago. I went in November and the temperatures weren't that bad. You're right, some very interesting fish!

Thanks! We were closer to shore but it was in a remote and undeveloped cove about an hour or two boat ride from the Corniche in Muscat. I wish I was there in the winter, summer in the Arabian Gulf is morbidly hot. The water was uncomfortably warm, I would just kind of porpoise it and breath dive down about 8-10 feet to cooler water and to get a closer look at the corals and fish. I found some awesome shells and dead coral pieces.
