Snorkeling near Clearwater?

I am coming to Florida in June & plan to be in the Clearwater or Sarasota area for a day or two.
I won't be able to make it to the keys on this trip.
Is there an interesting place to snorkel & see any kind of sea life in that area?

A couple of choices:
1. Come up to Dunedin (just north of Clearwater) and go out to Dunedin causeway - lots of grassflats off the north side with tons of life.
2. Come further north to Tarpon Springs and go out to Fred Howard park - also lots of neat grassflats.
3. If you have access to a boat somehow, a great place to snorkel is off Egmont Island which is at the very southern tip of St Petersburg (south of Clearwater).
4. Also if you have access to a boat, there are some neat spots just north of Dunedin almost to Tarpon Springs out in the bay that are spoil areas that are neat to snorkel (lots of urchins, hermits, etc.)

Not much in the way of tropical (ie. colorful) stuff around here buts lots to see just the same.

I have found that a fairly decent spot to snorkel is at Ft. Desoto Park. Take the main road to the end and turn left. Drive to end of street and park. Swim on the NORTH side of the street. There are great sand bars and grass flats.

If you want to swim with the Manatee's, travel to Crystal River (About 1.5 hours north of St. Petersburg). Do a google on swimming with Manatee's for places. With this last cold snap, they are bunched up in the spring head!

They also now have a ferryboat that will take you to Egmont Key. At the south end there's the remains of an old Spanish fort underwater. I know a lot of the snorkeling tour boats, out of Clearwater go there.
