I think my sh is getting snout rot. the tip of her snout is starting to turn white. it doesnt look like it is rotting yet just white. i made a mixture of water, neomycin, and iodine and put a few drops of it on her snout three times a day. also i was going to add some kanamycin to the water. i was also thinking of add it to the topical solution. anybody ever treat this before and does my treatment sound like it would work.

I have treated for snout rot before. Normally what I see is a swollen snout rather than it turning white. Can you post a picture?

If it is snout rot, you should move the horse to a QT tank and treat with Furan-2. The best way is to gut load adult brine with the meds but if that doesn't work, one packet of furan-2 for a 10 gallon tank as a bath. Do 50% water changes daily and add a new packet of the furan 2 each day. Make sure to to the treatment for at least a 10 day period. Monitor the tank to make sure the horse is eating. Furan 2 tastes nasty so the horse may not want to eat. If it is not eating, you will need to tube feed. liquid B-12 added to the tank will help to stimulate appetite and you can't really overdose so just add a couple of drops a day if you need to....

If you do the bath, keep the tank light very low. Light will difuse furan 2.
