does your bta close up at night? i was reading that they do... but mine seems to spread as wide as it can at night, with real long tenacles, after the lights are on for a few minutes it shrinks up to 1/3 that size and gets all its bubble tips. Ive actually never seen my bta completely enclose itself.....

just curious.... :)

Mine deflates and shrinks up some at night but I've only seen it close into a ball with a pigtail when it's eating a large meal.

Mine shrink down but remain open. Their feet stretch out during the day toward the light. At night they go down to the rock and the whole open disk is a little smaller. That's about it.

well i have moonlights on my tank,so they go on after my lights go out, my Bta has never closed up at night which i am pleased about,as the little bubble tips look a nice coulor under the moonlights.

wow. my bta is never comparable to anything i read. must be an odd one :D its 7 am, b4 lights are on, and its huge and beautiful.

It doesent even ball up after a good meal

My BTA is always up before the lights, he gets up with the sun. He's usually waiting wide open when the lights go on, he retreats for a minute or so and then remembers that the bright ligh it good too. My lights don't go on until 10:00 but they are facing a large bank of east facing windows.

I sew.. so I made a killer 'curtain' so the sunlight doesent get to the tank until i take off the curtain....

I hope it IS an awsome bta. I love it and take good care of it, but it acts so strange I worry about it.

It is hosting. Sort of. I have a maroon, and I added the bta after the fish. the fish hosted in under 60 seconds. They were together about 3 weeks, and my fish got a bacteria infection.. so shes in QT. (meds are over, shes doing great)

the thing is.... my bta has never been more bubbly and looking happier than ever since the fishj was taken away... nervous about re adding the maroon.....

Shes no bigger than the bottom of a soda can right now, super bubble tipped. at night shes the size of a salad plate! still moving around from time to time.. her colors great and shes eating.. so i guess shes happy.

I wish the fish was hosting right now. im having a real problem with hermits stealing her silverslide from her mouth. i have to sit for an hour or so and shoe them away with my trusty prongs lol

Mine tends to come out at night more than the day typically. It really extends at night. Mine isn't very large either (after splitting about 6 mos. ago 1/2 died off :()....I target feed it cyclopeeze w/ mysis a couple times a week and it has improved in health. Plus switching to Tek lights a couple months ago seems to have helped too!!

After a good feeding mine closes itself up tightly, and then later it deflates (we all know why :)). My pair of tomatoes won't leave the RBTA alone at all.....

grrr. i WISH mine would close after it ate. I watched and defended it from hermits for about an hour. went upstairs for about 15 minutes, came back and every hermit I have was in a pile eating her silverslide :(

I just got back from buying 6 snails. Ill be removing any hermit i see bother her... Ive had it!!! :D

You might want to try and put a few layers of window screening between the lights and the tank. See if your anemone is more comfotable with a slightly lower light level. If it is happy that way you can start pulling one layer of screen at a time until it stays out with the full light. You might even start with a couple days of just room light.

My GBTA doesn't seem to shrink up or close up much at all at night. About the only thing I've noticed is that it generally doesn't have bubble tips at night, but the tentacles are otherwise fully extended and it's fully open. Of course, my anemone's weird. It has yet to show any desire to move from the very bottom of the tank, even though I'm pretty sure the extra light would do it some good.

Islandcrow.....I'm sure it's getting plenty of light even on the bottom of the 55g w/ those Tek lights!!! I have to hide my fungia under a cave from the light.....

Here's my small RBTA w/ clowns. At night the BTA really comes out of the rock it hides down in. I'll try to get some night shots of it....

How bout some pics of the other BTAs spoken about?

Heres mine at night, (well, right before i turned the lights on) about a week ago

Oh, dont know if your anemone moves. but.. my anemone only moves to the left. (its right) walking, swimming, whatever. weird. but shes never been on the right half of the tank :)

AND.... I was watching the anemone ALOT today.. and I saw the same hermit that was eating the Sslide, climb up and grab a tenicle and pull really hard on it. still havent caught it. its behind everything....

lol look how big the powerhead looks compared to bta lol

realfreak... your tank is awsome. and the colors in that pic are super vivid

I just took a quick shot. It's a pretty bad pic but you get the idea.

This was taken with the pumps turned off. Ruler for scale and I have no idea why it looks like the water is so green!

This is with the pumps on:

Nice anemone Tourkid, looks like you've got a good start for a great tank. As for the left turns, remember 3 left turns is a right!! Mine doesn't move anymore now that it's found that spot.
Thanks for the compliments, the colors in that pic are very true to life, although the birdnest is more colorful.

Dantodd, thats a monster there! Very nice indeed.

wow huge. very nice dantodd :) how long have u had it? what do you feed it?

Isent it crazy how none of them look very similar? lol

Almost convinced myself I needed another one today, but it was attached to the glass at a fishstore that isent to nice getting them off, so i passed. it was just a lil one, very cute

oh reelfreak.. how long did yours move for? did it move during the day? mine takes off at night as soon as lights out if its going to move at all. never moves during the day.

Last time mine moved, was after it split. Both halves made it for a while, then one found a powerhead and never fully recovered.

This one hasn't moved for 3 to 4 months now. The two halves would move every month or so, till I lost one. When it gets too much bigger I will be doing some fragging of the corals closer to it. For now no issues yet though. That orange monti has a pineapple brain on the other side that stings it every night, It has two stalks that take the beating for the rest of the coral.

Tourkid, do you feed the anemone cyclopeeze or any other smaller foods that the crabs cant take away? I like the mysis/cyclopeeze mix squirted on mine.... :)
