So..what makes the little sand mounds?

I have about 5 or 6 critters in my 125g that make fine-grained sand mounds about 3"to 4" in diameter and about 1" to 1-1/2" high. They will stay there for several days and the move to another location. I have seen the mounds built against the aquarium wall and it appears that the critter is about pea sized as I could see movement once. I have demolished the mounds before and they will be built back up the next day. I am sure I could scoop up a whole bunch of sand and find the culprit, but I don't like to be that disruptive.

It is not piles of cuke poo. I know what that looks like. Anyone else have these mounds and know what they are?

I'm thinking anything that moves sand around like that is a good thing, and most likely finds its food in the sand....
