I recently purchased some Sodium Thiosulphate so I dont have to microwave my water anymore. When I bought it I didnt do enough research and relize I probably need a gram scale in order to use this stuff. Does anybody know where I can get a cheap gram scale? I would like to get it locally at a chain store if possible. Or does anybody have any other methods of measuring this out. Also what is a Molar solution?

You probably posted in the wrong forum, but gram scale can be found cheap online. Probably find a lot of cheap ones on ebay. There's a lot of online retailer for the scales. Also molar solution has to do with the concentration. Having done any chemistry in a while, but you need to know how much molarity you need the solution to be, and then you just add water to however amount of gram then you should be at the molarity you want your solution. There's a formula for that, just can't remember it off the top of my head.
Office Max or Depot has postal scales for about $30 that will get you there.

A mole is 6.023 times 10 to the exponent 23 molecules of anything. It is a unit of measure. A molar solution is a mole of something dissolved in 1 liter of water. If you know what the mole weighs, and it will be different for different molecules, you can simply weigh out enough to equal the molar weight, and dissolve it in a liter of water, and you have a molar solution.

If you want to sterilize water, you need to leave the bleach in it alone for an hour or more. The sodium thiosulphate solution will inactivate it. If you mix the two, there will be no point. You also need a chlorine test kit. They have test strips at the pet store that will do. For your freshwater fish, add thiosulphate solution dropwise until there is no more chlorine showing up on the test.
