Soft Coral Tank Parameters?

Hey all,

I'm wondering what you guys use for parameters for your soft coral-only tanks.

I currently only have soft coral and I have coralline algae growing like crazy. I'm considering no longer dosing calcium and only staying on top of the magnesium and alkalinity to hold the pH at a good level.

Any thoughts?

Have you tested your Alk/Ca/Mg levels? How much is your tank consuming a day?

I have, off the top of my head I'm not sure.

I'm convinced the coralline algae is consuming most of it. The only other things I have that would are snails - and they probably would use just what the substrate gives off.

I'll have to reword my question:

For soft coral tanks is it acceptable to be a bit careless towards the calcium/magnesium/alkalinity levels? I've heard of SPS tanks that relied solely on the liverock and substrate for dosing. The main problem I see with this is pH levels being unstable due to abnormal alkalinity levels.
