Maybe as the ocean acidifies soft coral could help protect the reef. I was thinking that maybe one reason why the reefs seem more healthy in the Indopacific than in the Caribbean is that there are a lot more soft corals there. Plus the Indopacific has xenia coral, kenya tree coral, green star polyps, sinularia and other soft corals that grow like weeds. I read that 90% of the Caribbean coral is dead
