Oh no, not another frags available post. Yep. I'll be cutting back just a couple of things that are getting a little large.

This one (possibly a Sinularlia)--I think this one came from Dave Burgman at the 2005 frag swap:

And this Alcyonium:

And this grey sinularia (hairy one on the right):

Also available: frags of GSP and one small frag of Anthelia

Let me know, if you're interested.

Thanks for looking.

Hi,

Glad to hear the Pulsing Sinularia did well for you.
Put me down for a frag of the hairy gray Sinularia. How much?

Dave

Erik is right. The grey sinularia is called a "pulsing sinularia," not the other one. I am not even sure that the first one is in fact a Sinularia. I don't know where the grey one came from, so I'm not sure how Erik knows it's origins. He may be right. I thought I got it from North Coast Aquatics, but I can't be sure.

Interestingly, I've had more requests for this one than any of the others. Unfortunately, it's also one I'm going to get the least frags from. I like them all, but my favorite is the large coral, the first pic. It is pretty stiff, closes up at night, very hardy and fast growing.

What I was sold as pulsing sin is the first pic...seems Dave thought the same?

Doesn't matter much to me just weird Ive seen others selling on RC that look like pic1 to me, and a thread in cora recently about a guy selling a huge one whole rather than fragging it up.

what's in a name?

what's in a name?

Scott may be right. I sure don't know. I'm the one questioning the genus name. Anyway, it doesn't pulse like the gray one. I am of hobbist variety that likes to use the scientific names to reduce confusion. Take Colt coral, for example, a common name that may apply to as many as three genera! That's doesn't mean I'm any good at it. :) It also doesn't mean that I snub my nose at hobbists (most more advanced than myself) who do use common names. Back to the Topic? Who wants frags? :D

I agree no big deal at all just curious. I tend to not use any name..Its 2 categories...I like or I don't like

I'm mostly into SPS and trying to ID most is a joke

Sorry for hijacking the thread

Don't sweat it. Post away! I am interested in these things, but I agree with you: I like it or I don't. Personally, my faves are echinopora and echinophyllia and the like. Wish I could find/afford more.

Yeah, people usually run with the hot name and in this case I think it got ran with so much that the original hard to find piece lost its name. and everyone sold the fake as the real. lol. good to see it back again...Fuzzy :) Full circle
Erik

Hi All,

The pulsing Sinularia that I had closed up at night like you would close your fist. Is the third picture on the right the one that closes up at night or when you disturb it? If that's the one it looks like it got a lot hairier than when I had it.

Dave

Hi Dave,

The gray pulsing sinularia stays open most of the time, day and night, but it *does* close up like a fist when disturbed. The first pic, which is the coral that I got from you (at the swap in '06, I think, not '05 as I posted) closes at night, but in normal retraction and deflation fashion.

I really think the gray pulsing Sinularia came from North Coast Aquatics. It was from a vendor across the room from you. As I recall, in '06 you were close to the entrance along the back wall?

I don't mean to confuse things--probably did anyway.

Looking forward to our trade, Dave.

Plenty of the Sinularia (first picture) to go around. Ditto the Alcyonium. I don't think I can fill all the requests for the hairy-gray-pulisng-Sinularia. The Anthelia is spoken for.

Thanks to all.

I am bringing frags to the meeting for the following people:

Burgman
tolo13
EYESEEU
Cove Beach
Thinslis

If anyone else would like to get in on this, please let me know by the end of the day today.

Thanks!
Ben

\m/ FUZZY!!!!!! yay!!!!! \m/

i'd recognize it anywhere.

OK, here is the real history on fuzzy: someone sold a propped frag to greg. couldn't ever find out who supplied it. so it was actually from a frag from Aquatic tech that someone traded.

this was probably 8-10 years ago btw. my fuzzy got too big and crashed (owners of fuzzies, should always keep one small frag going. it seems like the thing becomes all base and gets touchy when it gets huge)

it is good to always know that fuzzy lives :)
