some high res pics of my danaes

So the photo is 4000 x 3481 pixels, but the Sony DSC-N1's maximum resolution is 3264 x 2448. What's the secret?

ok... I may be out of the loop, but i have never seen a rainbow monti before. That is an awesome pic/coral.

You weren't kidding. I don't believe I've ever downloaded a 7 meg image before. :D

hmmm my dad is a photographer so if I do any photo editing work for him he has to send it to me and we are usually talking 40-50 megs.... but they arent jpgs they are raw so that helps boost the size.

James, the hi-res version of the Rainbow Monti really doesn't look good, although it looks fine when it is displayed in a smaller setting.

Rather than guessing at the resolution, have a specific number in mind. For example, if you know you'll need it in print quality, pick the necessary pixel size. For online viewing, you might as well keep it at 1000 pixels or less, unless you have a specific screen size. For example, the rainbow monti is a very beautiful piece, and my monitor is set to 1280 x 960. When I viewed that 10 meg image at 5000 pixels wide, it didn't look clean and crisp. It really should though, based on the camera being used. Perhaps you cropped it too tightly.

Hope you don't mind the specific feedback.

I understand where you are coming from, I think it would look better if you downloaded it and opened in something besides IE.... The image itself is an 8x10" but the problem is IE doesnt display print size it displays pixels.... and no I am always learning....

I do see where you are coming from but when I open it in Image viewer or photoshop at print size it is great.... I mean I could always just post the photobucket pic that has been resized for viewing and it looks great....

but in all seriousness marc keep it coming I mean how can I argue when its you giving me critiques !!

I guess my computer's cache is rather crappy, because I had to download it four times to get a copy I could load into Photoshop.

When I view it in Photoshop, it looks amazing at 12.5%. However if you view the image at 100%, which means full size, you'll see the pixelation I was describing above. Even at 33%, I start to see the problem in the center of the image.

Will it print out? I'm sure it will, but I'm not willing to part with the ink.

I love the coral, and wish I had one. I think this one really is just an over-cropped item, and the dimensions you entered made it larger than it should be mathematically.

I hear ya.... yeah I sent it to my dad to have a print made of it... I will know the next time he sends off some stuff to get printed which should be before next week....

when I cropped it there was no enlargment though.... I took the image which my camera shoots at 40 something by 30 something inches and 72 dpi and used the crop tool to crop it to an 8x10 image at like 500 dpi.... I know it is overkill, I guess I needed to do the math for the correct pixel calculations.....

actually marc, I didnt crop it..... all I did was re-size it from the Large inch x inch low res to a smaller inch x inch higher res....
