Some kind of slug type thing is on my zoo's...

Kaos

"Lurker"
Last night some of my zoo's weren't open. This puzzled me for awhile because ever since I got my zoo's colonies they have been open every night when the lights come on. Looking closely I seen one zoo was trying to open (or alteast that's how it appeared). It looked like some of the skirt was sticking out. I thought I would use the most valuable tool I know of in this hobby...patience. So I didn't do anything much and waited for the lights to come on tonight and see if everything was better. When the lights came on this afternoon I noticed another colony was completely closed up except for another one zoo that looked like it was trying to open. I looked closer at what I thought was a zoo trying to open and found it was actually a slug type thing w/ two or three "fingers" on top that were a flourescent green (almost like a zoo skirt). I quickly grabbed something to suck him out of my tank. Unfortuantely (or maybe fortunately) I casued the "finger" things to fall off of him when I squirted him into a specimen container (where he is crawling around, I think, right now).

So, does anybody know what this is? Is it harmful? I couldn't get a pic of him, but the body is sorta tan colored w/ two or three flourescent green "fingers" coming off the top and he has two antannae type things on its head. Any idea from this discription? TIA.

Check this link... its most likely a nudibranch.

Nudi

Yep your right, it's the green nudi. I don't know why I didn't think to check ZoaId.com. Thanks for the help. Now, hopefully, he/she didn't lay any eggs....

Chances are they did.... if you can pull the colony out, I would inspect it for the eggs (look at that same link) and pull them off with tweezers. An RO dip would kill anymore... usually if there is one, there are plenty of others.

If several of your colonies are closing then you have more than one nudi in the tank. Dip all your colonies even if they look healthy. Thats the only way you will get rid of them.
