Some opinions please?

I'm looking to set up a 75 gallon tank soon and was wondering what type of lighting some people use for their 75s.

Currently interested in a soft corals and some LPS. I like seeing movement in the tank, although SPS look awesome, there's not enough movement in the tank for my liking.

What lighting would you guys recommend me looking into? What corals would you recommend me looking into? I like seeing a lot of movement, so far i've found the GSP to be very cool looking

48" T5 6x54 tek light. This light will allow you to do any type of coral in that size tank.

if you like movement, Xenia, Hammer, Anchor and frogs spaun corals. are a good start. maybe think about a bubble tip anem. host for a pair of clown fish and build the set up around that.

Yes, about 1000 of them.

Alveopora, Flowerpot, Hammer, Torch, Cristata, and the list goes on, but these LPS are not always easy to care for, and are probably not the best to start with.

If you have never grown coral and are not familiar with growing coral, Xenia is a common beginner coral.

Toadstool Mushroom, Leather Coral and Tree Corals are also easy to care for, and a great way to get into reef keeping.

And as for the Bubble Tip Anemone, if you have never owned an anemone before, don't buy one until you have done a lot of research. They only belong in tanks that are set up right, and are running correctly on a consistent basis.

I agree with the above poster on a Tek 6x54W fixture, but if you are willing to spend more money, there are a wide variety of LED fixtures currently on the market that cost more initially, but unlike T5 and Metal Halide, last a lifetime and never need bulb replacement, which overtime level the cost. Furthermore, they do not produce heat for the most part, and are usually cool to the touch. They are also cheeper to run per watt, and usually more powerful per watt. This means, a 100W LED could be just as strong as a 400W Metal Halide. Do your research, there is a lot to learn.

Pulsing White or Purple Xenia is a great one for movement, and easy to care for.

Can you recommend me some of those LED fixtures? What website sells these fixtures?
Thanks for the help! I'm still in the planning stages of my tank, since i've never had a saltwater tank before.

If LED's are on your maybe list I would look at the AI Sols and Ecotech Radions, two of either units will work on your tank. Radions are far more expensive but are by far the nicer unit, I went with the AI's based on price and am happy so far with my choice. As for corals that provide movement xenias are great but watch them as they will grow so fast they will completely take over a tank. Leathers, toadstools and colts are good. There are tons of LPS like the Frogspawn, Duncan, Hammer, and Torch. Dont count out the SPS for movement, look up pictures of Milli's and others with long polyp extension. They will not have the long waving arms like the softies but the still provide a good bit of movement with great coloration.

I agree. Most beginner hobbyist shy away from LEDs when they see the price, but end up spending more over time switching from T5s, VHO, and Metal Halide, and trying different bulbs types.

It is worth it to find an LED fixture that fits your tank best, and stick with it. The hard part is, there are so many LED fixtures on the market or coming to the market, its hard to pick one, and once you do, a new one comes out that tops the one you just bought.

Its like buying an iPod...a few months later and your iPod is ancient.
