somebodys eating my zoos

i had a very small brittle star hijack with a frag from the swap. the same things that are getting eaten. i thought of that for a minute, good thinking though. i finally took all my frags and put them in my sump/fuge. what a bummer! i think im just gonna go to an all mushroom tank, those are my second favorite thing to look at. thanx for the post anyway old crusty.

Brittle stars & asterinas are not the same , & neither are acros & zoas. ;)

I have had brittles tear off pipe-organ polyps & aim them at their mouths.

:o Amphipods! :o

Man eating amphipods...yikes even!!!

Why just the other day one was chewing the hair off the back of my hand while I was moving frags around.

The whole disappearing act of things in the tank when something is munching on them. Way way back when in the February 09, 1989 reeftank, I bought yellow polyps. Lots of them. For some reason they were the cat's meow for my 6 month old 55 reef. And I bought a few of those little shrimp that look like Eddy VanHalen's guitar without the black stripes. (that's why I bought them at least) And found that they were eating up my yellow polyps. I was so new that I thought they were cleaning them...like the way a cleaner shrimp works on a fish. DOH!!

So, while I make the wise crack about the amphipods, it is a bummer when things predate on one another in our little glass box of joy that some of us spend every available nickel on.

ON the problem at hand. I would go with pythons crab issue but add another possible. There are some little white 8 legged jobs that look like spiders that come in with zoas and can hide and are alleged to do alot of damage. And I won some zoas a while back which were from Reputable source (I will not name names to protect the guilty) . Upon the dipping cycle I saw these little guys dug in tight in the zoas. And upon ole google search found that some folks claim/have evidence these predate on zoas. And oddly enough the areas these were around were not so thick. I had to pry them with hemostats from their spot. Didn't lose any zoas so the dip and removal must have worked.

Where was I? Oh yeah, "Honey quick get the shotgun and swap out the rocksalt loads with the buckshot...I hear amphipods coming up the basement stairs!!!"
