I did post in Reef Discussion but no one answered yet.

I noticed my leather doing it's normal shedding ...I thought ! It closed up really tight, not normal and then I saw these horrible brown/white spots that are starting to make small holes.

Checked water and all looked ok, but for a small bit spike in Nitrates. My salinity sat at 1.023 and I wasn't sure what it could be. Today the new digital refractometer came in so I thought i'd try it out. Calibrated and OMG, it said 1.027. I check a new batch of saltwater mix and it was right on 1.023 where I make it.

I wondered why the last batch I made...two weeks ago was not reading right and had to up the salt content to make the reading 1.023. Now I know that stupid old plastic one was no good.

What can I do now. I have been slowly replacing the saltwater with fresh RO/DI water and checking every half hour and it has come down a bit.

But what about my leather, can it be saved. It went from a beautiful 16in monster to a horror story.

Only other thing changed was a new BTA, and a goniopora , BTA is about two feet away, and Goniopora is about a foot away.
