Please hit us up with your tank dimensions, total water volume, and filtration/then I am sure you'll get some really good answers.
Really small tanks I like the black and yellow citron gobies for SPS, even though they have been known to bother some sps.
Mid size tanks that are 24' tall I prefer wrasses and anthias, the wrasses keep pests under control and you get amazing colors.
Larger tanks tangs etc.
I guess it all depends... I have seen a couple of amazing tanks that spent the money on SPS and just went about all chormis and or blue devil damsels.
Blue devil damsels with a pesudochromis and a bluethroat, niger, snowflake, tusk, etc would look great in a mature 90+ if you like aggressive.
I also have a soft spot for toby puffers, just make sure you have no shrimp, crab, or snails also nothing with big fins.

When trtying to mimic nature, I watched a lot of dive videos, the common fish I saw around SPS were damsels, anthias and hawkfish.
My 72 SPS reef has 4 Azure Damsels, a Scopas tang, and a Tomato clown.
