I received my divers den order yesterday (A2626497)
for two zoa colonies.
One of the zoa colonies appears to have sick polyps. They are closed but dont appear to be normal closed, it looks like a milky/gray mat with empty polyps.
When i saw this peice in the divers den i did notice a few polyps closed but the rest looked great with very vibrant color. Well the ones that are open are very pale and not vibrant at all. This colony was also shipped upside down in the shipping bag, zoas are pretty strong creatures but i think theres something wrong with this colony.
The other zoa rock has several closed polyps as well but dont appear to have that sickly gray/milkyness to them which is a good sign. Only complaint is that it was neon orange in the DD pictures and just appears a bland brown color in my tank even under actinic lighting.
I have neon pinks and neon orange zoas in my tank that were vibrant from day one, these DD zoas look pretty bad.
Sorry to say but this DD purchase is a thumbs down :(

CoralBeautyII,

Thank you for your inquiry and recent order with Live Aquaria. We apologize for any disappointment with your Zoanthus Colony Polyp. Unfortunately, shipping can be stressful on live stock. This can cause slime production in corals, loss of color and polyps to close up. When given time to adapt to new surroundings, they make a full recovery. This beautiful coral is covered under our 14 day warranty. We ask you to please monitor the polyps closely and contact us with any updates regarding the condition of the coral.

Thanks for replying. I will give them time and hopefully they will perk up. Will vitamin C help? Their was a post not too long back stating that vitamin C can perk up zoas, ive never tried this before.
I took a picture of the DD neon orange polyp with these tiny specs on them, its the closed polyp towards the bottom right, what are those things?

They actually don't look that bad for being shipped in the hot weather. They should recover unless your water is not to their liking.

I have received a few DD shipments and they are the best ever. If they do go south, you count on them to make it right.

So you think those little pimply things are nothing to worry about?
The other colony does appear to be slime like dfs/la2 said, should i blast it off? That was the colony that was shipped upside down so that would explain the sliming i guess.
Grrr why did they ship it upside down lol

CoralBeautyII,

Thank you for your response. Polyps require the addition of iodine and other trace elements to the water. However, we are not aware of any benefits when adding vitamin C. We apologize that we are not able to identify the bumps on the polyps as the photo is not clear. If concerned, an iodine dip is recommended to disinfect the coral. Please contact us with any other questions or concerns.

I do have iodine on hand. I supplement my tank with a two part solution (A+B)
Sorry about the pic being unclear, my camera isnt good at taking small closeup shots. The bumps look like tiny white pimples with a few looking like an "x" or a tiny seastar. I will watch to see if anything moves or if they remain stationary.
Well i do thank you and i will keep you posted if anything changes :)
