Specific Gravity

I'm confused. Why does my Instant Ocean salt say recommended SG is 1.020 - 1.024, and everyone on here says theirs is at 1.025 - 1.026?

dont worry about why, try to keep it at 1.025-26 its then very close to NSW and allows a little bit of movement for evaporation, always try to keep close to those margins and dont let it rise or drop a point either way and certainely too quickly:)

1.021 if it's fish only

1.025 if it's a reef

Sometimes...

The leaves are changing colors.

I dont think it good to tell someone trying to learn dont worry why, just do it. People ask questions so they can make educated desicions.

However you then go on to answer the question.

My understanding from what I have read is it is closer to Natural Sea Water(NSW)

If everyone is doing the same thing, wie would be at a stand still.

I think "don't worry, just do it" is a pretty good answer in this case. 1.026 is roughly the worldwide average. There's no sound explanation for why keeping salinity low would be desirable and we can do nothing more than guess at IO's logic for recommending that.
