spicule composition

are spicules in soft corals calcium or silicon based? ive read both, and i know that sponges which possess similiar spicules have silicon based spicules. I cant seem to find a difinitive answer as to what spicules are made of. Someone help me out please.

As far as I know, they are made out of both. Mainly Calcium Carbonate

soft corals and sponges can have either siliceous, or calcium or both at the same time depending upon genus and species
