Spiny Box Puffer

Hi All, I currently have a 90g reef. I am in the process of buying/setting up a 180g and plan on transferring my reef to that. I was thinking of using the 90 as a FO. I really like the porcupine puffer, but fear my 90 won't be big enough. I have read about the "Spiny Box Puffer" which from what I have read is smaller.

Does anyone have one of these? Does it have a personality similiar to the porcupine? Can it be housed with other puffers? Does anyone know of another puffer that won't get as big as the porcupine?

Thanks in advance for all the info--I don't know where I would be without Reef Central.

they do not get as big but they can still get a foot long. My last one was 10 ish inches & it took him about 2yrs to get there from being 2-3 in long, he was in a 150g. I had a porcupine puffer as well who was 5 ish when I purchased him, they would lay on top of each other....... very amusing.....

Anyways, he would outgrow a 90g within a year I would say

You would need to get one of the small puffers like a valantini or something like that. They do not have the personality of a porc. or spiny :(

Ok thanks for the advice so far. Here is a thought--turn the 180 into FO??? Well, we'll have to see about that, but are there any corals that would be safe with a puffer (porcipine or Spiny Box)? I have mushrooms, ricordia, zoos, palys, leathers, GSP, open brain, meat coral.... Could any of those be moved into the FO?

Thanks,

Claire

I have mushrooms, zoas, gsp, and a leather in my fo with a porcupine puffer, and Picasso trigger. They haven't bothered anything.
