I have been taking a look into making a smaller tank... but i realize that the larger set up would be much easier to keep stable for longer periods of time. i was wondering can i make a split tank with a small reef on one side and a fowlr on the other and slpit it with a large wall of LR... because for the expense it would be way better if i could get just a single 20k 175watt mh for a little mixed reef with clams on onse side and just something simple for the other posiblly fish that are peacefult to inverts but wil go after most corals. My LFS has some really cheap large tanks. so i was wondering first of all can this really be done? will the rock wall need to be perfectly built with very little holes in the for wall for ewater circualtaion? or can i make small caves for the smaller reef safe fish/ cleaner shimp/other cleaners too pass throught? because i would probbably be keeping non reef safe fish on the other side in the FOWLR... would they make an effort to jump the LR wall or knock it down or go through the little invert caves and eat the corals on the other side? secondly... how deep can i keep a LS bed without it becoming a night mare i hear 4-6 inches is the standard... but can it be deeper? and what cleaners would be best for shifting the really deep sand without depleeting my bed of all little lifeforms?
