Spot/hole on side of new clown

Hello, I'm looking for some help with a clown fish I added to my tank one week ago. He had a small spot on his side when we got him, and over the past few days we have noticed it grow significantly. Two days ago, it had something coming out of the spot - it looked a little like it could have been sand, but I can't be sure. There is no longer something protruding from the spot but it is still there and looks like a visible hole in his side.

It is a new 65gallon tank with a 29 gallon sump. The pair of clowns are the only fish in the tank, along with some hermits and snails. We are currently treating the tank with Melafix. The fish is eating and swimming around the tank. If anyone has seen this before, or has any ideas on what it is or how to treat it, it would be appreciated!

I attached a couple of photos to show the progression.

My best guess is some sort of bacterial disease, possibly furunculosis. Being it's only getting bigger, I would treat with a broad spectrum antibiotic in QT. In the past I've successfully treated furunculosis with Furan-2, so that's what I suggest.

Thanks for the suggestion. After the seven day cycle of Melafix, there was no improvement, the spot seemed to grow. We're starting the Furan-2 today in QT.
